Beta-Caryophyllene is a terpene commonly found in spices and herbs like black pepper and abundantly in our organic hemp cultivated on our farm in Longmont, CO. It is mostly found within the trichomes of the hemp flower or bud, which are rich in the medicinal oil that is extracted. Terpenes like beta caryophyllene give the plant unique taste and smell, but most importantly they provide a synergistic effect with cannabinoids that are also abundant in the hemp plant. Beta caryophyllene is particularly abundant in hemp versus marijauna that is predominantly grown for it’s psychoactive compound, THC.
Its main benefit is that it activates a response in the CB2 (cannabinoid receptor) receptor in the body that deals with inflammatory response signals and other pathways of discomfort. In addition to its mechanism of action on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), it has shown to have a wide range of benefits on other chemical pathways in the body.
